Looking for an activity that has a lot of buzz in Nation? Don’t believe us? Google Rock, Paper, Beads and see for yourself. Randi Seligson shared this activity they do when she and her students attended CADA Leadership Camps. Here’s a Snapshot of what she does (this Snapshot was originally featured in our weekly blasts to members)
**
Split the entire school into 5 teams, not grade vs. grade as in a middle school we’d have issues… We did red, blue, gold, green, and purple. The week before, we made a video of the random color selection for all classes and provided details about the spirit week. (some school’s do it as a class competition)
MONDAY:
We posted the Rock – Paper – Scissors – Beads video directions and made announcements on our LMS, over the PA, sent teacher emails, etc… We continued this daily.
WEDNESDAY:
We distributed the beads to advisory classes in their assigned color. All Staff were given special silver-colored beads. Once students received the beads, the game was on! Game play continued before/after classes, break, lunch, etc… If teachers allowed play in class, that was up to them.
FRIDAY:
On Friday at lunch we invited students with the most beads to the stage to earn points for their team. The top 10 players played Rock, Paper, Scissors, Beads! for 5 minutes on stage and counted their final collection of beads. Each was worth 1 point, but if they had the silver teacher beads, 20 points each.
We had kids obsessed with Rock, Paper, Scissors, Beads! Giving the silver beads to staff allowed not just teachers, but also cafeteria staff, office staff, aides, etc… involved too!
One of our top bead earners was a teacher! We even had students go out and buy more beads to keep playing. It was a huge hit!
GAME PLAY:
- Anyone with beads can challenge another person with beads.
- The winner takes 1 of the loser’s beads. (A variation is to take ALL of their beads.)
- If someone has no beads, they are out. Someone with beads can take a chance and still play them if they want.
- Play for the established time – decide how many “winners” you want. You can have top bead earners battle it out!

THE BEADS:

It took about 2 – 3 weeks to receive all of the beads. We compared prices and they were the best for the amount we needed. We needed 400 of 5 different colors. Since we did not need many silver teacher beads, we just used Amazon. There are YouTube and TikTok videos out there on the game from various school around the nation. Google Rock Paper Scissors Beads, you’ll find em.
